After Cardiff, Swansea is the second largest city of South Wales, located to the east from the Gower Peninsula. The population of the city is about 250,000 people. Swansea is not only a popular resort but also an important commercial center. The recently reconstructed port area has become the spot of the high-tech industry. Attractions include Swansea Castle, found right in the center, Maritime Quarter, Glynn Vivian Art Gallery, Swansea Museum, Dylan Thomas Center, and the Central Market, the largest covered retail place in Wales. Today, Swansea’s main economic sectors are education, health care, trade, hotels, restaurants, banking, finance, and insurance. Nowadays, it is a developed city, an important industrial center producing spare parts for cars, non-ferrous metals, and steel. An oil refinery and a chemical plant are located in the suburbs.
