Aberdeen is the main sea and fishing port in Scotland with a long sandy shoreline. It is the third largest city in the country, and 210 thousand people live here. In the Middle Ages, Aberdeen was home for Scottish kings. It is otherwise called Granite City or Silver City because all buildings were built of the local gray granite, in which mica blotches glittered like silver in it. After the oil was found in the North Sea, Aberdeen became the European capital of oil. The city is historically divided into Old Aberdeen and New Aberdeen, the southern part of the city. Only 52 streets are in the city and Union Street with the oldest quarters is its main thoroughfare.
